Katherine Parten is an associate attorney with the Law Offices of R. Brian Smith. Her diverse practice areas include domestic matters, such as divorce, child custody, and grandparent visitation; criminal defense; personal injury; criminal expungement; and civil commitments.
Katherine is a native of Marengo County, Alabama. She attended the University of South Alabama, graduating with a double-major in Political Science and Foreign Languages. Katherine earned her Juris Doctorate with a Certificate in Public Interest Law from the Alabama School of Law, where she was a member of the Alabama Civil Rights and Liberties Law Review. While at Alabama, Katherine gained experience as a certified intern in the Civil Law Clinic where she initiated a case in grandparent visitation which later proceeded through appeals to the United States Supreme Court successfully.
After graduation, Katherine began her career at the Tuscaloosa County Public Defender’s Office, where she provided legal representation to indigent criminal defendants. In 2016, she joined the Law Offices of R. Brian Smith where she has expanded her practice representing a variety of clients throughout central and south Alabama.
When not working, Katherine enjoys spending time with her husband, Dylan, and their two daughters. She is an avid outdoorswoman, horseback rider, and hunter.
